#12 Towson vs #5 James Madison

October 3, 2012

Towson travels to James Madison University to take on the Dukes.  Both teams are 1-0 in CAA play.  The Tigers’ CAA win came against William & Mary, while James Madison beat Rhode Island 32-7.

James Madison’s 3-1 record has earned them a #5 national ranking, while Towson (2-2) is ranked #12.

Both of these teams are dominant forces in the CAA.  Last year, the two teams did not face each other during Towson’s title run.  James Madison finished with a 8-5 record (5-3 in the CAA).

The Dukes have had the upper hand in past matches against the Tigers.  Towson has never beaten James Madison since both  schools joined the CAA.

James Madison is led by quarterback Justin Thorpe.  Thorpe has 728 passing yards and 5 touchdowns on the season.  He also has 261 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns.

For the Tigers to be successful they will have to “cut the head of the snake” so to speak.  Neutralizing Thorpe and disallowing him to have a huge impact will be the key to victory.

Romele Tucker will be crucial to Towson’s success defensively.

Romele Tucker and Frank Beltre will have to contain Thorpe from getting getting out of the pocket.  While Jordan Dangerfield and the secondary must take away Thrope’s passing options.

James Madison’s defense does not give up much to the ground game.  Towson will have to rely on a three headed attack with the run game to keep James Madison off balance.  A solid mix of Terrance West, Dominique Booker and Grant Enders should keep the defense guessing.

The key will be to exploit James Madison’s secondary early.  Against Rhode Island and Alcorn State, the Dukes gave up around 15o yards.  If Towson can assault through the air early that should open up running lanes for West, Booker, and Enders.

Towson will go as far as quarterback Grant Enders takes them it seems.

This will be a huge test for Towson early on as they look to bounce back off of having two losses already on the season.

The game will be televised on NBC sports network.  Game time is 1:00 Saturday October, 6.

GO TIGERS!
